North Devon Council will have a new leader after the May elections after the current leader Des Brailey has chosen to step down.
Cllr Brailey has served 16 years as a councillor, including two years as deputy leader and six years as leader of the Council.
But he has announced that he won’t be standing for re-election at the May 2 district council elections.
In a statement, he said: “After much deliberation I have decided to stand down from North Devon District Council in May. Having discussed this at length with friends, colleagues and relatives, I feel this is the right time to stand down and spend more time with my family.
