In the seven years Winchester High football coach Wally Dembowski stood on the opposite sideline from Rocky Nelson on Thanksgiving Day, there was one thing that was obvious to him.
“He was a Tanner, through and through,” Dembowski said.
Nelson, who was Woburn Memorial High School’s head football coach for 31 years, died Sunday, Dec. 2. He was 74.
“Incredibly sad to hear of the passing of Woburn Legend football Rocky Nelson,” said Lexington coach George Peterson in a tweet. “It was a pleasure to have had the opportunity to get to know Rocky and to [have] competed against him. He will be sorely missed. Our condolences go out to the Nelson family.”
