    Please tell which class NCERT should I read to complete the UPSC preparation?

    NCERT texts are extremely popular among IAS aspirations. The simple language used in these books makes it easier for the students to grasp various concepts and topics with ease. Now, if you have started your preparation well in advance, it is recommended that you begin from standard 6 NCERT books. However, if you do not have the time to go through all the books from standard 6 to standard 12, here are a few important ones to help you prepare for UPSC Civil Services Exam.

    For history, you may use the following books:
    • Standard 6 – Our Past 1
    • Standard 7 – Our Past II
    • Standard 8 – Our Past III – Part 1, Part 2
    • Standard 9 – India & the Contemporary World 1
    • Standard 10 – India & the Contemporary World II
    • Standard 11 – Themes in World History (Focus on Industrial Revolution)
    • Standard 12 – Themes in Indian History I, Themes in Indian History II, Themes in Indian History III

    Use the following texts for geography:
    • Standard 6 – The Earth: Our Habitat
    • Standard 7 – Our Environment
    • Standard 8 – Resources & Development
    • Standard 9 – Contemporary India 1
    • Standard 10 – Contemporary India 1I
    • Standard 11 – Fundamentals of Physical Geography, 11th – India – Physical Environment
    • Standard 12 – Fundamentals of Human Geography, 12th – India – People & Economy

    For political science, use the following books:
    • Standard 9 – Democratic Politics I
    • Standard 10 – Democratic Politics II
    • Standard 11 – Indian Constitution at Work
    • Standard 11 – Political Theory
    • Standard 12 – Contemporary World Politics (8th – Environment & Natural Resources)
    • Standard 12– Politics in India Since Independence

    The following texts are recommended for economics:
    • Standard 9 – Economics
    • Standard 10 – Understanding Economic Development
    • Standard 11 – Indian Economic Development
    • Standard 12 – Introductory Microeconomics
    • Standard 12 – Introductory Macroeconomics, Class XII – Supplementary reading material in Economics – Introductory Macroeconomics

    Here is a list of a few important chapters which will help you prepare science:
    • Standard 6 – Chapter 9: The Living Organisms & their Surroundings
    • Standard 7– Chapter 7: Weather, Climate & Adaptations of Animals, Chapter 9: Soil
    • Standard 8 – Chapter 1: Crop Production & Management, Chapter 5: Coal & Petroleum, Chapter 7: Conservation of Plants & Animals, Chapter 12: Friction, Chapter 18: Pollution of Air & Water
    • Standard 9– Chapter 14: Natural Resources
    • Standard 10 – Chapter 14: Sources of Energy, Chapter 15: Our Environment, Chapter 16: Management of Natural Resources
    • Biology Textbook for Class 11
    • Standard 12 (Biology) – Unit X: Ecology ( Chapter 13 – Organisms & Population, Chapter 14 – Ecosystem, Chapter 15 – Biodiversity & Conservation, Chapter 16 – Environmental Issues)

     

    The books you can use for preparing for sociology are-Introducing Sociology Textbook for Class – 11, 12th – Social Change & Development in India (Class 12) and Indian Society Textbook in Sociology for Class XII. An introduction to Indian Art (class 11) can be used for learning about culture and fine arts.
