Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an All-India Common Entrance Examination for admission into the top engineering colleges in India. It is considered to be one of the toughest exams in the world.
It is conducted in two phases: the JEE Mains and the JEE Advanced.
One needs to clear the cutoffs of JEE Mains to be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.
Engineering colleges in India
NITs, IIITs, and some other centrally or state-funded institutes consider JEE Mains score for admission, while institutes like IITs and ISM, Dhanbad, grant admissions based on JEE Advanced results.
As mentioned above, it is a highly competitive exam. 1.4 million students appear for the exam every year, and only about 20,000 students get selected for JEE Advanced. Both the exams are objective, containing multiple choice questions.
JEE Mains consists of 2 parts:
- Paper 1 (for B.E. and B.Tech.)
- Paper 2 (for B.Arch. and B.Planning)
Paper 1 is a 3-hour examination which consists of 90 multiple choice questions, 30 from each subject, that is, from Physics, Maths, and Chemistry.
This exam is conducted in both online and offline modes. There is also 25% negative marking for every wrong choice.
Paper 2 consists of 3 parts.
- Aptitude Test
- Drawing Test (The questions test a candidate’s drawing aptitude)
It is conducted only in offline mode.
The JEE Advanced paper pattern and marking scheme vary every year. But the question papers consist of objective type (multiple choice) and numerical answer type questions, which are designed to test comprehension, reasoning, and analytical ability of candidates.
Correct answer will get (+4)
Incorrect answer will deduct (-1)
Hope that helps!
