Does anyone who qualifies for JRF through CSIR UGC NET is eligible for getting a monthly stipend irrespective of his or her rank?
Hi Arun!
Anyone who qualifies JRF via CSIR UGC NET is entitled to a monthly stipend of Rs 25000 per for the period of two years, as of now. In case your host institute cannot offer you accommodation on campus, you can draw HRA amount. Then, once you get upgraded to SRF, your stipend is increased to Rs 28000. This amount is given irrespective of whether you are a UGC fellow or CSIR fellow on the rank list and award letter. Other funding agencies such as DBT and ICMR follow a similar pattern in most cases.
IIT’s
IITs also follow the same pattern for their MHRD funded Institute fellows. However, only a select few (usually in the top 8 ranks of CSIR UGC Net) are awarded ‘Shyama Prasad Mukherjee fellowships.’ These scholars get a much higher stipend. So, unless you make it to that elite rank squad, you are entitled to the same fellowship amount as the rest of the qualifiers
Regards!
