Writing efficient and accurate answers is vital if you want to score well in the main examination. All those hours of hard work will amount to nothing if you are unable to frame your answers properly. Practicing writing answers should be an important part of your preparation for UPSC Civil Services Main Exam.
The basic qualities of a proper answer include legible handwriting, neat work and proper choice of words. Avoid decorative language. Use language which is fluent and easy to read and understand. Your sentences should not be too long. A number of UPSC aspirants suggest introducing answers with relevant data, quote or some latest event. Dividing answers into sub parts and using sub headings will also help. Clearly explain the key words given in the questions. Never jump from one fact to another. There should be a flow to the answer. Take help of diagrams or flow charts to elaborate your answers.
Read the question properly. Make sure it is clear to you. Spend a few seconds to frame the answer in your mind. This will make it easier for you to write the answer.
Don’t compromise on the clarity of your answer while trying to include as many facts and dimensions as possible. It is good to write an answer which includes various dimensions but if your answer lacks flow or clarity, you may end up losing marks. Practice is the key to perfection! Previous years questions papers and mock test papers will help you a great deal.
    All the best!
