    Hi Amit!

When you say you want to earn as an actor, that means you dream of becoming a Bollywood actor. But it is often said that it’s hard to get into the Hindi film industry without connections. Since there is high competition from thousands of theatre and T.V actors. However, you can improve your chances if you are exceptionally talented. The casting agents can only take you seriously only if you’ve got a portfolio as per industry standards.

Then the luck factor always plays an important role. But only if you are dedicated to your art.  Also, a good personality, an attractive face and of course talent, is very much required for a stable career in the acting world.

These drama and acting schools are the platforms that help you build a portfolio. They sometimes even help exceptional students bag roles in movies, as it promotes their school too.

There are many acting and drama institutes in India, which offers various diploma, certificate and other courses for polishing your acting skills and prepares you to be industry ready.

Check out the list of popular acting schools which can pave the way to your acting career.

    Some of them are-

    1. FTII, Pune Film and Television Institute of India

The Film and Television Institute of India is on one of the most sought-after acting institutes in India. Set up in 1960, it is a member of CILECT (International Liaison Centre of Schools of Cinema and Television), an organisation of the world’s leading schools of film and television. The written test for FTII entrance examination is held every year.

Famous alumni: Naseeruddin Shah, Mithun Chakraborty, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Shabana Azmi, Shatrughan Sinha.

    1. National School of Drama (NSD), Delhi

Anupam Kher and Pankaj Kapoor were the product of NSD. Being a primary theatre training academic body, NSD is an autonomous institute functioning under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. It is a theatre training institute and is one of a kind in India. The number of seats available for admissions is limited to 20 to 30 and tough eligibility criteria has been set for the same.

Famous alumni: Irrfan Khan, Seema Biswas, Raj Babbar, Neena Gupta, Piyush Rana.

    1. Subhash Ghai’s, Whistling Woods International

All under the guidance of the great showman Subhash Ghai. There are also Guest lectures and interactions arranged by leading Indian and International filmmakers, actors and technicians

    1. AAFT, Noida

Asian Academy of Films and Television was established in 1993 and offers 3 months and 1 year courses in acting. An online aptitude test and an interview is conducted by the institute to select candidates for admissions. The Academy is divided into 8 wings:

    AAFT School of Business

AAFT School of Hospitality and Tourism

    AAFT School of Fine Arts

    1. Barry John Acting Studio

Barry John, the Guru of Shahrukh Khan, was the founder of the institute. It is located in Delhi as well as Mumbai. Courses such as Certificate in acting (weekend course), Diploma in film acting, Diploma courses in film arts and others are offered. An annual series of workshops is organised in ten to twelve venues every summer.

Famous alumni: Shahrukh Khan, Manoj Bajpai, Freida Pinto, Arjun Kapoor, Mira Nair

The other and the only Road to Bollywood-

There is another way you can look for work in the film industry. After completing your education, which is a must, as there is no guarantee for success. Though one can only hope for good. Have a professional photo and video session. Or make your videos ready, that can best show your acting, singing and dancing skills. It can also show snippets of the work you’ve already done. Make a video profile on YouTube and mention its link in your acting CV/Resume ( http://www.dailyactor.com/acting-resume/ ). Submit a DVD containing your videos along with it. If you have a link to your own professional video website, much better. Then prepare to move to a place like Chennai or Mumbai of Noida which is bubbling with such opportunities. You can directly visit the production houses in places like Andheri where you can submit your portfolio and begin your struggle. The finest and the biggest of the actors in Bollywood have already done their part of marketing in their struggling years. It’s now your turn.

Beware- Stay alert to avoid casting couch!

You will have to interact and share your portfolio with following five people-

    The casting agent:

They always find actors who are suitable and have good personality and looks. They ask for portfolio. Some of them also have an experience of doing petty roles in famous movies. Stay away from fake casting agents.

Who is a fake casting agent? The one who unnecessarily wastes your time.

    The assistant director:

After casting agent you have to deal with the assistant director. This assistant director would take you to the next stage and will help you meet the manager.

    The manager:

The manager will ask you for photographs and also he will refer you to the assistant producer.

    The assistant producer:

He is closely linked to the producer or the film maker.

How to spot a fake one? If he asks for sexual favor.

The producer or the film maker:

The producer invests money to make the film. Many people claim to be film producers, just to fulfill their sexual needs and exploit innocent people. You should be well prepared to deal with them, if you come across one.

Perhaps you are the next megastar!

    Regards
