Direction : In the following passage there are blanks, each of which has been numbered . These numbers are printed below the passage and against each , five words are suggested, one of which fits the blank appropriately. Find out appropriate word in each case.
In the classification of material qualities, Krishna said in Chapter 18 of the Gita: “Understand that knowledge to be in the mode of goodness by which a person sees the one undivided _______(1)_______reality within all diverse living beings.” It talks of connections between anything with any other thing. A saatvik person sees a world of many, connected to each other. The world is conceived as a truly many-body system of interacting entities, controlled by an all-unifying force.
The idea of interconnection is the basis behind the many body theory in statistical physics and is handled by both classical and quantum theories, more so by the latter. The unconnected picture in Physics is described by an independent-entity model, which has its limitations.
_______(2)______ an unconnected world is easy. Therefore many people think that way. That is why rajasik people are more in number than the saatvik persons. It is a self-centric picture of the society.
But the true picture of life is an interconnected one. Processes that describe this picture are called cooperative phenomena. Cooperative endeavour induces order. Unconnected, individual behaviour results in disorder and randomness. Consider, for example, the random walk. This walk does not show a coherent picture of progress. In an NCC drill, there is cohesion and unison, because all cadets are connected to each other by the unifying force of drill rules and discipline. The picture shows order. As long as they follow rules, they are in order and undisturbed. Minor departures in the file can be quickly corrected. For example if one member of the file takes a wrong step, he immediately corrects it by skipping one step. Once there is relaxation in the discipline, they let loose. The order ______(3)______.
Krishna said, “There are some people who do not see whether or not the world is connected. For them it is meaningless, because they always live in a self-created darkness, ______(4)______ of knowledge. These are tamasik people who are lazy, slothful, inert and blind to reason and truth.”
Extremely saatvik people are rare, so also the extremely tamasik ones. This is perhaps good because too much of both goodness and badness is deceptive. But they act in opposite directions. The former is deceived and the latter deceives. The rajasik state is in the middle order. They use connections or non-connections as per circumstantial demands.
It also _____(5)______ some sort of unity in knowledge, irrespective of the sources and space-time limitations. No doubt we live in a world where many things happen by chance. But, if we carefully look at random events of chance, there is an interconnection and it is this mystery that is yet to be resolved.
