PATNA: The number of girl students at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Patna went up from 36 in 2018 to 46 this year, a jump of 27.7%, largely because of 17% quota for women candidates in IITs introduced by the ministry of human resource department. In 2017, IIT-Patna had just nine girl students.
A separate help desk for women candidates seeking admission in IITs was set up at IIT-Patna this year.
The girl students were admitted based on their marks in Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2019 conducted by IIT-Roorkee. The seven rounds of counselling and admission process in IITs had concluded last week.
